Hamilton Municipal Court Divorce Records
Divorce and dissolution of marriage are civil lawsuits that terminate a marriage. In Ohio, divorce is the term for a case in which an active dispute over the termination of the marriage, child custody, property division, or any other issue exists. Meanwhile, dissolution of marriage refers to a judicial action initiated by couples who agree on all issues of the case.
For all records originating from such actions, the court assigns the umbrella term, "divorce records." To obtain marriage termination documents or information, individuals should contact the Butler County Court of Common Pleas, Domestic Relations (DR) Division. This is the tribunal that receives divorce and dissolution filings from residents of the City of Hamilton or the townships of Ross and St. Clair in Butler County (areas where the Hamilton Municipal Court holds limited trial jurisdiction).
The Legal Division of the Butler County Court of Common Pleas keeps all records of divorces, dissolutions, legal separations, and associated family court files. Case inspection and document reproduction requests for records predating the year 2000 can be directed to the Butler County Records Center in person. For records 2000 through the present, remote electronic access is offered via the Clerk's eServices portal.
Plain copies cost 10 cents per page, and certification costs $2 each, but record inspection is free.
